Sorta nel XII secolo la cattedrale fu costruita a pianta basilicale con forme romaniche ed intitolata a Santa Maria Assunta. Nel XIII secolo assunse quell’aspetto gotico che ancora oggi possiamo riconoscere, probabilmente grazie agli interventi degli architetti monaci cistercensi di Fossanova. La chiesa si presenta all’esterno con il campanile, poderoso e solenne, che sporge sull’angolo sinistro della fronte ed è anch’esso legato all’architettura romanica.
Built in the 12th century, the cathedral was built in a basilical plan with Romanesque forms and named after Santa Maria Assunta. In the thirteenth century it assumed that gothic aspect that we can still recognize today, probably thanks to the interventions of the architects cistercian monks of fossanova. The church is on the outside with the bell tower, powerful and solemn, which protrudes on the left corner of the front and is also linked to the Romanesque architecture.
Créée au XIIe siècle, la cathédrale fut construite en basilique de formes romanes et intitulée à Santa Maria Assunta. Au XIIIe siècle, il prit l’aspect gothique que nous pouvons encore reconnaître aujourd’hui, probablement grâce aux interventions des architectes moines cisterciens de fossanova. L’église se présente à l’extérieur avec le clocher, puissant et solennel, qui surplombe le coin gauche du front et est également lié à l’architecture romane.
